John Deere Fundamentals and Orientation

Description
Introduction to manuals, service advisor information system, engine classifications, and serial numbers. Warranty, work orders, and John Deere recommended service department policies and procedures are explained. Orientation of John Deere product lines and the evolution of these products. The safe operation of shop tools will be demonstrated and a forklift safety and operation test will be included. Student may not earn credit in both JD 101 and JDAS 101.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Discuss the history and current structure of the John Deere Company.
  • Understand the relationship of the sponsoring dealer to the John Deere Company.
  • Properly use time accounting systems, operator and technical manuals via Service Advisor, service pricing guides, and D-Tac.
  • Operate each piece of John Deere equipment that the program has access to for the course.
  • Demonstrate safe operation of Forklift Equipment.
  • Demonstrate understanding of their role in service department operation and profitability.
  • Ability to properly complete a time card and work order.
  • Ability to communicate the complaint, the cause, and the correction of work performed.
  • Ability to locate and utilize all service information resources.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards customer relations.
  • Develop an awareness of continuing education opportunities.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Service ADVISOR.
  • Explain what Service ADVISOR will be used on the job.
  • Identify Service ADVISOR program features & benefits.
  • Identify software and hardware requirements.
  • Install software, perform updates to software and load new data disks.
  • Ability to load old or historical data disks.
  • Ability to understand when/how to be connected to the network.
  • Ability to understand the license agreement.
  • Ability to properly setup, calibrate and diagnose John Deere equipment using Service ADVISOR.
  • Student must score a minimum of 80% on the Service ADVISOR - Methods & Techniques - Assessment to be eligible for graduation from the JD TECH Program.
