Description
Students work on skill development in reading. Students practice a variety of reading comprehension strategies as they read a range of materials.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the process of reading for academic information and utilizing critical thinking to make selective choices about the information
  • Build vocabulary through context clues and recognizing word part meanings
  • Recognize the main idea and supporting material of a reading (essay length)
  • Paraphrase material from readings to demonstrate comprehension
  • Summarize information using various concept maps including flow charts, and basic outlines
  • Recognize fact from opinion in print and internet sources
  • Increase reading speed from the time the student entered the course to when they exit
