Description
Provides the Fundamentals of Care Giving as a foundation for the beginner healthcare provider. The course has been developed as a precursor for students interested in taking the Nursing Assistant Training Program at a later time. Successful completion of the course will earn a Fundamentals of Care Giving certificate.   Prerequisite: Required placement testing READ 078 or CASAS Level IV.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Understand what is required and expected of a caregiver.
  • Know how and why it is important to protect a client's rights.
  • Use good communication and problem solving skills with a client, family members, and other team members.
  • Protect the health and physical safety of a client and yourself.
  • Correctly provide personal care and other authorized tasks while:
    - understanding how a client wants things done and doing tasks that way;
    - honoring a client's privacy, dignity, and differences.
    - encouraging a client to do as much as he/she can.
