Description
First quarter of a sequential first-year college-level French course that provides students with the basic tools of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, along with opportunities to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while being exposed to the richness and diversity of the French-speaking world. Formerly FREN 101, French I.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Students will demonstrate their ability to perform at the novice to intermediate novice competency level, according to ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) standards and associated O.P.I. (Oral Proficiency Interview) criteria, on a final oral proficiency interview. [Communication]
  • Students will prove their ability to identify and articulate a minimum of three principle areas of difference where American and Latino cultures interface. [Diversity]
  • Students will confirm their ability to apply grammatical rules identified by the instructor with an accuracy level of at least 90 percent before being granted credit for the course. [Critical Analysis]
