Description
This course is needed to support ESL students with a goal to pursue an academic or vocational pathway. Students apply academic writing concepts addressed in ENGL 077, thus providing opportunities to work toward College level English faster. The course also provides students with an introduction to on-line course work within a supported environment. Instructor permission required.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Use simple planning strategies to identify and organize a limited number of ideas to support a single purpose, and produce a legible and comprehensible draft.
  • Use simple revision strategies to monitor effectiveness by rereading and revising during the writing process and making revisions to a first and final draft based on review and feedback from others.
  • Demonstrate beginning attention to clarity, descriptiveness, personal voice, and appropriateness of texts for the intended audience.
  • Make many edits of grammar (verb tense forms), spelling sentence structure simple/compound/complex with appropriate capitalization and punctuation), language usage and text structure often with the help of tools such as simplified dictionaries, grammar checklists, and graphic organizers and WWCC Rubric.
  • Demonstrate computer skills.
  • Illustrate critical thinking skills to organize and present ideas.
