Description
Offered to students who are literate in their own language or progressed from ESL 005. Students will be able to read simple text and write simple sentences. Focus is to improve reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar in life skills contexts such as providing personal information, describing daily events, and identifying jobs and work related abilities. Prerequisite: Placement by CASAS or completion of ESL 005.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Write basic personal information.
  • Use a highly structured plan to express ideas and information in writing and speaking in a manner that is clear and appropriate to the audience
  • Follow a highly structured plan to organize ideas around a singular familiar topic
  • Make simple edits of grammar, capitalization, spelling, and punctuation based on review and feedback from others
  • Understand and respond to learned words and phrases in simple questions in familiar topics in face-to-face situations
  • Use basic computer software programs
  • Read, write, and interpret simple mathematical information in personally relevant situations
  • Proceed to ESL 020

  • Additional topics are determined based upon specific learning needs of ESL level 3 students
