Description
Focuses on key elements of grammar, sentence structure, and composition of a well-developed paragraph. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement score and writing sample. Formerly ENG 089.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the writing process:
    1. Free writing, brainstorming.
    2. Editing and proofreading.
    3. Sentence combining.
    4. Writing short, focused paragraphs.
    5. Gain a basic understanding of WWCC's Writing Rubric.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of good sentence structure:
    1. Recognize subjects, verbs, and prepositional phrases.
    2. Recognize and correct fragments.
    3. Recognize and correct run-on sentences.
    4. Use commas correctly.

  • Demonstrate computer skills:
    1. Write and revise on the computer.
    2. Learn to use spellchecker and the thesaurus.
    3. Practice grammar review on the computer.
