Description
Examines short fiction from the 19th century to the present, drawn from a variety of countries and cultures. Formerly LIT 141, Intro to Fiction.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to:
  • Interpret literature and evaluate the readings for authorial style, intent, theme, and characterization.
  • Differentiate among the basic elements that comprise the art of fictional narratives.
  • Assess the elements that bear the burden of a story's meaning.
  • Employ appropriate literary terminology.
  • Appraise the ways in which a writer's insight can be relevant culturally and personally.
  • Compose unified, coherent responses to the literature which appropriately cite from the text under consideration.
