Description
Examines poetry, fiction, drama, and non-fiction. Formerly LIT 140, Intro to Literature.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Interpret complex forms of literature to derive meaning or themes.
  • Evaluate the interpretations of others by comparing them back to the text.
  • Identify and articulate complex ideas and themes in stories and poems through thoughtful and intelligent discussion or written assignments.
  • Distinguish their own world view from the theme of a story of poem.
  • Practice and successfully apply strategies and concepts for understanding various forms of literature, such as plays, poems, short stories, novels, film, and comics, from various cultures and historic times.
  • Apply literary terms and concepts to various pieces of literature to analyze how they work.
