Description
Provides student experience in an early childhood setting and experience in integrating past experience and knowledge of young children in planning and assisting as preschool teacher/preschool teacher's assistant. Topics include environments, curriculum evaluation, staff relationships, and code of ethics. Prerequisite: Instructor permission, successful completion of ECE 139 and ECE 291. Recommended: READ 088. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Observe and participate as a preschool teacher/preschool teacher assistant in an early childhood setting. Experiences will be documented in journal.
Work individually with children in learning activities.
Assist in maintaining the physical environment in a safe atmosphere for children and teachers.
Accept supervision and direction from lead teacher and/or director in the classroom and from teacher from WWCC.
Read and demonstrate understanding of the NAEYC Code of Ethics.
Complete two observations in designated areas:
1) Special Education or ESL (English as a Second Language) classroom
2) Same grade level at different school.
Arrange for two visits by supervising teacher from WWCC, to the practicum classroom.
Maintain a confidential journal of the hours of lab experience including activities completed, observations, questions, reactions and discussions with child care center director and instructor. This journal will be read only by the WWCC instructor during the quarter. It will be turned in at each seminar.
Maintain a list of questions during the quarter and bring to each seminar.
Complete weekly assigned readings.
Complete group research project and evaluations.
Develop awareness of the importance of commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
