Description
Introduction to activities that assist in development of a young child's muscle coordination, awareness of body image and movement, and physical development. Topics include developmental sequence, creative expression, brain development, group games, and play. Recommended: READ 088. Student may not earn credit for both ECE 236 and ED 236. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Describe the role of movement in chld development.
Describe the four different domains: physical, social, cognitive and emotional and the purpose of movement within each domain.
Describe movement's role in the musical and creative development of the young child.
Describe how the characteristics of child development impact movement and music programs.
Describe how to use movement and music for transitions.
Describe what is involved in movement programs: the elements, locomotor skills, nonlocomotor skills, manipulative skills, educational gymnastic skills.
Create a lesson plan using a variety of music and movement themes and progressions.
Demonstrate the various teaching methods that are needed in teaching movement and music education.
Create and maintain a positive learning environment when teaching movement and music education.
Use movement and music education outdoors and describe what is needed to be successful in this.
Integrate movement and music education through other curriculum areas or areas of study.
