Description
Provides adaptive strategies and technical knowledge for efficient educational sequences to remediate specific student skill deficits. Topics include analysis of basic learning principles, considerations in special techniques for training, and a formal design to teach specific skills and/or concepts. Recommended: READ 088. Student may not earn credit for both ECE 160 and ED 160.

  • Identify impact of federal legislation and litigation on education of special needs students.
  • Identify influence of inclusion on services received by special education students.
  • Describe the role of paraprofessional during whole class, small group and one-on-one instruction.
  • Summarize guidelines for planning and organizing effective instruction.
  • Compare proactive and reactive classroom management practices.
  • Model effective organization and study skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to utilize appropriate strategies in the areas of reading, math, writing, study skills, cognition.
  • Identify appropriate adaptations for content area assignments that will facilitate academic success.
  • Explain assessment and selection of reading strategies.
  • Describe impact of learning environment on classroom performance.
