Description
Provides student experience in an early care setting. The student integrates experience and knowledge of young children in planning and assisting as preschool teacher/preschool teacher's assistant. Topics include environments, curriculum evaluation, staff relationships, and code of ethics. Prerequisites: ECE 191 and instructor permission. Recommended: READ 088. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Observe and participate as a preschool teacher/preschool teacher assistant in an early childhood setting. Experiences will be documented in a journal.
Participate with children in the classroom. Students will document experiences in journal.
Assist in maintaining the physical environment in a safe and inviting atmosphere for children and teachers.
Accept supervision and direction from lead teacher and/or director in the classroom and from supervisory teacher from WWCC.
Demonstrate understanding of the NAEYC Code of Ethics. Be prepared to discuss in class.
Complete two observations in designated areas: 1) Special Education or ESL (English As A Second Language) classroom
2) Same grade level at different school.
Arrange two visits by supervising teacher to practicum classroom.
Maintain a confidential journal of the forty hours of lab experience including activities completed, observations, questions, reactions and discussions with child care center director and instructor.
Maintain a list of questions during the quarter and bring them to each seminar for discussion.
Complete weekly assigned readings.
Complete group research project and evaluations.
Develop awareness of the importance of commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
