Description
Plan physical spaces appropriate to children's cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional development. Develop an understanding of the role of environments on children's learning and behavior, including schedules, materials, room arrangement, and center-based learning. Incorporate diversity in the environment is introduced and practiced. Recommended: READ 088. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Develop a personal understanding and philosophy of environments for young children
Explain design principles, characteristics of space and facilities planning.
Demonstrate the influence of the learning environment on cognitive, physical and social/emotional development.
Develop awareness of cultural factors in environmental planning.
Explain proper environmental adaptations for special needs of children and families.
Evaluate existing environments for infants, toddlers, preschool and primary age.
Apply health and safety standards in environmental planning. This will also include state licensing requirements.
Cooperatively plan and design a developmentally appropriate indoor environment for young children.
Cooperatively plan and design a developmentally appropriate outdoor environment for young children.
