Will investigate key chemical concepts and principles using one or more of the following themes: chemical advances in civilization, chemical processes in food preparation, chemistry of crime, chemistry of the environment, chemistry of soils and gardening.[NS] |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Use balanced chemical equations to describe common reaction processes
Use the periodic table of elements to classify elements and predict periodic trends
Distinguish between ionic and covalent compounds (including biological macromolecules) and identify the role of these compounds
Use a basic understanding of atoms to describe common organic molecules
Distinguish between solutions, colloids, and suspensions
Identify and distinguish solids, liquids, and gases
Define pH and use the pH scale to explain specific observations
Describe energetics of reactions
