Description
Designed to expose students to the actual functions of the therapy group. Students will observe and participate in experiential exercises that are designed to mimic the various stages of treatment. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Meet future Chemical Dependency professionals and help one another gain the insight and knowledge necessary to become certified.
Receive a basic knowledge of the WAC guidelines concerning Chemical Dependency counseling.
Understand the disease process as it relates to chemical dependency.
Identify the reasons for using group therapy for addicted populations.
Differentiate between group content and group process.
Recognize the curative factors that group therapy fosters.
Demonstrate group leader functions and how to select members for their groups.
Identify different group therapy intervention strategies and practice these strategies in class.
Students will gain an awareness of their own values, attitudes, and knowledge about chemical dependency and abuse.
