Description
Instruction in reading, writing, and computational skills for individuals with a goal to improve basic skills. Placement is determined by a score of 221-235 on a CASAS test or other intake assessment. All students under 19 years of age must have a signed release form from the last school they attended. Students 16-17 years of age must first be admitted to the College following the Underage Admissions policy, which is available in the Student Development Center. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Complete all WA Adult Learning Standards for level 4 in reading, computation, and writing.
Perform all basic math functions with whole numbers, decimals and fractions; interpret and solve simple algebraic equations, tables and graphs; develop own tables and graphs; use math for authentic purposes such as business transactions.
Recognize less common patterns and patterns used regularly across specialized areas:
Recognize a range of syllable patterns
Recognize a range of roots
Recognize a range of prefixes and suffixes
Analyze and interpret meanings in common informational and literary texts:
Draw conclusions about the author's viewpoint and underlying bias(es)
Determine the effectiveness of the author's use of language to achieve the author's purpose
Consider how narrative elements interact to develop a story
Use multiple planning and pre-writing strategies to identify and organize a limited number of ideas to support a single purpose and produce a legible and comprehensible draft
Make many edits of grammar, spelling, sentence structure, language usage and text structure, often with the help of tools such as simplified dictionaries, grammar checklists, and graphic organizers.
