Description
Instruction in reading, writing, and computational skills for individuals with a goal to improve basic skills. Placement is determined by a score of 201-210 on a CASAS test or other intake assessment. All students under 19 years of age must have a signed release form from the last school they attended. Students 16-17 years of age must first be admitted to the College following the Underage Admissions policy, which is available in the Student Development Center. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Complete WA Adult Learning Standards outcomes for level 2 in reading, computation, and writing.
Read simplified connected text (aloud and silently) accurately and with relative ease
Group words in simplified connected text into meaningful phrases
Read regularly a range of easy connected texts, inside and outside class
Make basic edits of grammar (verb tenses, subject/verb agreement), simple and compound sentences, capitalization, spelling and punctuation (end periods, some commas).
Read, write, and interpret very simple types of mathematical information such as whole numbers, common monetary values, benchmark fractions, percents, proportions, standard units of measurement, geometric shapes and concepts of length and width.
Extract discrete information from simple and concrete data and graphs, and measure with appropriate tools, describe patterns, and/or use computational procedures effectively to solve a problem and to verify that the solution is reasonable.
