Conners Selected NWAACC Red Lion Scholar

Walla Walla Community College sophomore Carrie Conners has been named as the NWAACC Red Lion Scholarship recipient for the 2005-06 school year. Conners, a two sport athlete for the Warriors in Women’s Soccer and Softball, was recognized for her combined athletic and academic excellence by the NWAACC. Conners is a pre-nursing student at Walla Walla Community College and a President’s List Scholar while being named to the National Honor Roll. Conners will be attending Eastern Washington University next Fall after signing a Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division I soccer for the Eagles.

During her two years in Walla Walla, Conners has copped just about every honor an athlete can receive. She was named as an All-Conference and Academic All-Conference performer this past Fall for the Warrior’s Soccer program as she anchored a backline that claimed their third straight Conference title.

As a Softball player, Conners was named both an All-American and an Academic All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She is also a two time All-Conference selection and was recognized as an NWAACC Academic All-Conference selection.

Quoting Softball Head Coach Mike Staudenmaier:
Carrie has enjoyed tremendous success here at Walla Walla Community College – both in the classroom and as part of the college community. It is my feeling that she exemplifies the best qualities in a student athlete and has been a roll model for achievement here on campus.

In her two years here, Carrie has shown an ability to balance her priorities, work with faculty and coaches to compensate for missed time in the classroom and on the field, and has been able to maintain a high level of success in all of her commitments. She is a leader amongst her peers and has captained the softball team while also being actively involved in the college.

Quoting Women’s Soccer Head Coach Chad Bodnar:
Carrie’s been a tremendous young person to work with. She’s performed at the highest level on and off the field and I’m certain she’ll be successful at Eastern Washington both as a player and a student. We’re very proud of her achievements and she’s represented our program extremely well.
