GENERAL INFORMATION

The Warrior Dance Team was founded in 1998. They perform at all home Volleyball and Basketball games as well as in local parades and other community events. The squad first gained national recognition by winning a national title at the 2002 UDA National College Dance Team Championships. In addition, the 2003-2004 team was featured as the cover story for the national dance publication, Insights Magazine.

WWCC has three program goals in mind:

  • Provide a more entertaining experience for the fans
  • Attract new students to the college by providing scholarships and a post-high school dance team experience
  • Enable dancers to further their dance career by continuing and broadening their dance education

Each year, 12-14 dancers and cheerleaders are selected through an audition process. Auditions are held in April of every year. Individuals auditioning for the team must possess strong cheer and/or dance backgrounds. Dancers selected are eligible for scholarships of approximately $200 per quarter during the performance season.

Practice begins the first week of August and ends in March. During that time, team members spend 12 hours a week practicing and conditioning. All members are required to enroll in the Advanced Jazz class. Additional dance classes are offered in Hip-Hop, Latin and Swing, and dancers are encouraged to enroll in those as well.

Former members of the WWCC Dance Team have received dance scholarships to LA Danceforce, Hawaii Pacific University, Boise State University, and Western Washington University. Others have started dance careers with Seattle Supersonics Dance Team, Yakima Sun Kings Dance Team, Pacific Northwest Dance Company, Westlake Dance Center, Universal Dance Association and Universal Cheer Association.
