Civil Engineering Technology
Civil engineering technicians help civil engineers to plan and build highways, buildings, bridges, dams, wastewater treatment systems, and other structures, and to do related research. Some monitor quality, estimate construction costs or specify materials for construction. Others may even prepare drawings or perform land-surveying duties. Technicians may set up and monitor instruments used to study traffic conditions. Civil engineering encompasses many specialties. The major ones include structural, water resources, environmental, construction, transportation, and geotechnical engineering. Due to an aging infrastructure and civil engineering's involvement in relatively all aspects of daily living, the demand for Civil Engineering Technicians is prominent. Cities, counties, state and federal agencies, special districts, and private consultants hire civil engineers and civil engineering technicians and technologists.
