The Culinary Arts program is designed to prepare students for success in the food service and hospitality industry. It provides opportunities to learn the basic skills in product knowledge, food production, service and management while incorporating extensive hands-on instruction and internship opportunities.

The Culinary Arts Program at WWCC is accredited by the American Culinary Federation and operates in a state of the art facility on our main campus, as well as, a satellite commercial kitchen at the Center for Enology and Viticulture. Our commitment to Culinary Arts teaching and learning is evident in both our facilities and curriculum. We are a student centered program with an active Culinary Arts Club and opportunities to participate in structured labs, classroom and hands-on learning environments.


WINTER CULINARY ARTS JUMP START

Culinary arts is accepting students for a Winter Jump Start which allows them to take two lecture modules in the Culinary Program (Food & Culture, Service Management, and Food & Beverage Management) in addition to classes outside the department in related instruction to the program (See degree requirements.)


Benefits to the Winter Jump Start

  • Participate in the program while meeting some of the related course instruction requirements.
  • Become familiar with our faculty and our community of practice.
  • Enroll in two lecture based culinary classes if desired.
  • Get ahead in the program.

Culinary lab classes can be demanding in time commitment, and students getting ahead can facilitate time management in later quarters.

Mission

Walla Walla Community College Culinary Arts Program is dedicated to providing a well rounded quality professional culinary education, preparing graduates to enter the workforce as a fundamentally trained team member.

Our focus is teaching students general knowledge and skills that are necessary to be successful in their chosen path in this profession and to enable them to grow into leadership and management positions if they so choose. We inspire our students to be open to the limitless possibilities of our profession.

Program Outcomes

  • Prepare students to enter the workforce with the skills and knowledge to make a valuable contribution to their employer in a short amount of time.
  • Encourage, support and provide opportunities for professional life-long learning in the hospitality industry.
  • Provide in-service and skill upgrade opportunities for program graduates and industry personnel to maintain current knowledge of trends in changing industry requirements and technology.
  • Collaborate with industry partners in an ongoing basis. These partners include: farmers, production personnel, distribution personnel, hotels, restaurants, clubs, wineries and service personnel.

Degree Options

Students may earn an Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences Degree in Culinary Arts upon completion of the two-year program of study. A Culinary Arts Certificate, is available upon completion of the first year of study in the program.
