English as a Second Language

"Better Skills, Better Jobs, Better Lives"
The mission of the English as a Second Language (ESL) Department is to provide a quality learning environment for English limited speakers by providing basic literacy instruction that strengthens English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The ability to communicate more effectively in English will enable students to have more educational opportunities, enhance their ability to enter the 21st century workforce, and to participate more actively in the social, cultural, and economic environment.
ESL classes are offered to non-native speaker. Instruction and curriculum is established according to the Washington State Adult Learning Standards and CASAS Competencies. Students are assessed with the CASAS appraisal for appropriate placement in reading and listening, and CASAS pre-test to determine skill areas that need strengthening.
