Library Use

Walla Walla Community College is a member of the WALNET consortium. Membership fees maintain a web-based catalog and resource sharing service between member libraries. All employees and enrolled students are eligible for a WALNET library card. Community patrons may be eligible for a WALNET card through the Walla Walla County Rural Library District (WWCRLD). Non-residents will be referred to their local public library for full services or, if none exist, to the closest public library that provides a fee-based, non-resident card.

In the library, patrons should feel comfortable to study, work in small groups, use the computers and media equipment, and consult with librarians in an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy toward others. The library strives to provide a variety of study environments, ranging from quiet areas to conversation areas to group study rooms. Loud voices, cell phone ringers, or any disturbance that prevents others from studying are prohibited.

Although precedence is given to students, the library facility is open to all.Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and are restricted from computer use. Identification (student ID, driver's license, etc.) is required in order to receive a WALNET library card. Library cards will be issued to eligible patrons with a valid ID over the age of 16. Library staff reserve the right to restrict computer use by any nonstudents or staff engaged in excessive or disruptive use.Food and drink should be covered and care taken to not leave a mess. The library maintains a "quiet area" where talking and other noise is not allowed. All circulating library materials are available for checkout to WALNET library card holders in good standing. Cell phones must be turned off and patrons are asked to take their cell phone conversations to the lobby. Patron records are confidential, regardless of the source of inquiry.  Except as needed to transact library business, library staff will not reveal patron information, or information about which materials a patron has checked out, without a court order.WALNET Loans, Interlibrary Loans, and other services may be used to obtain materials not available in the WWCC library. Instructors are asked to check with Faculty Librarians or Library Supervisor before bringing a class to the library. Staff can prepare for a positive experience for the students ensuring adequate resources and availability of space. As with all college resources, use of computers is prioritized for students and academic use.

Library policies and procedures for use of the facility are intended to maintain an environment conducive to collaborative and reflective research and learning.
