WHAT IS TRIO?
Established by Congress in 1965, TRiO programs are federally funded through competitive grants at over 1,200 colleges, universities, and agencies throughout the United States. TRiO programs are designed to provide academic, career, and personal support to college students who are first generation, are low income, and/or have disabilities.
TRiO PROGRAMS WORK!
- TRiO participants have a 22% greater chance of persisting toward their degree and entering their third year of college than similar students without the benefit of TRiO.
- Students who receive a full range of TRiO services (counseling, special courses, and tutoring) are twice as likely to be retained in college.
