CAREER LIBRARY
Standard reference books including Dictionary of Occupational Titles, Occupational Outlook Handbook and Guide for Occupational Exploration are available for your use. Numerous books on resume writing, job-hunting and career decision-making are also provided. The blue Career File cabinet contains profiles of over 2,800 occupations. These 4 to 8 page folders include information on job descriptions, working conditions, hours and earnings, educational requirements and employment outlook.
INTEREST TESTING
Counselors in the SDC can give you an interest inventory and interpret its results for you so that you will know how your interests and abilities compare with those of people successfully employed in a large number of occupations.
CAREER COUNSELING
Appointments can be made with Counselors to develop your career goals and design an individualized educational/work experience plan to help you get there.
COLLEGE CATALOGS
Most post-secondary institutions in Washington and Oregon as well as some in other neighboring states are represented in the SDC collection of “hard copy” catalogues. Web page addresses are available for many others and a complete collection of catalogs for US colleges and universities is available on microfiche in the College main library.
CAREER AND LIFE PLANNING COURSE
(Psychology 140--3 credits)- a course designed for students to:
*Identify their school and career-related interests and strengths
*Establish a personal career development plan
*Learn techniques for conducting an effective job search.
